Traditionally the backyard is the last area carried out on The Block NZ but contestants were surprised this week with the task of completing the space a little earlier this season. Each team was required to create a backyard that would complement their outdoor room and also meet the brief of being a ‘lush, native and low maintenance’ backyard.
The Block NZ sisters and contestants Sarah and Minanne have been struggling with their budget and gladly welcomed the prize of $8,000 worth of outdoor furniture or umbrellas. Wining the plank challenge sponsored by OceanWeave allowed them to choose from a combination of OceanWeave outdoor furniture and/or Shade7 umbrellas for their outdoor room. After selecting our Rio outdoor dining furniture and Buenos sofa, they strategically had some money left over to use for their backyard space.
One of the key areas in Sarah and Minanne’s backyard was a paved section at the back of the property which needed to offer seating and act as feature. After visiting OceanWeave’s Auckland showroom they were quickly drawn to the light grey Siena outdoor lounge chairs with corresponding coffee table, as they matched the outdoor furniture they had already used for their outdoor room in a previous week. The Siena chairs feature large scale diagonal fabric strapping and cross weave technique which delivers an edgy style to any outdoor living area. The high backs of the lounge chairs make them both attractive and comfortable as noted by The Block NZ judge and interior designer Jason Bonham.
In addition to the furniture they also selected a 2m x 2m Bistro umbrella from Shade7. Sarah and Minanne chose the charcoal colour to match their colour scheme. The Bistro has been specially designed to be light weight, rust free and very strong. It has been constructed with marine grade anodised aluminium with a premium marine-grade outdoor fabric with the highest possible UV protection rating to withstand New Zealand’s varied weather conditions.
