Originally a refuse station, Tom Tom’s is now a clever combination of modern décor with an industrial feel. They boast a very large alfresco dining area making it an attractive venue for summer time, both casually and for functions. During the design process New Zealand’s harsh sun had to be considered, which demanded that some shade be included as part of the layout. Shade7, a New Zealand based business, supplied five Tempest Commercial Umbrellas for their outdoor area. These five metre square commercial telescopic umbrellas are designed for both sun and rain protection making them ideal for Auckland’s changeable weather. As Tom Tom’s wanted to focus on creating a great atmosphere, these non-permanent structures ensure that the summer flair is not lost whether the umbrellas are up or folded down. Although the outdoor umbrellas are a practical measure they also add a unique visual flair to the outdoor space, enhanced by the customised printing from Shade7.
On the menu front, Head Chef from Tom Tom, Fraser Shenton, has created a lunch and dinner menu that exudes fine dining but without the hefty price tag. There is a slight emphasis on seafood amongst a variety of creative savoury and sweet options. The bar showcases a variety of beverages with a selection of cocktails begging for consumption over the upcoming summer. One of their own upcoming events being held on New Years Eve will be a highlight for customers to enjoy the Auckland fireworks from their large elevated outdoor pavilion.
Tom Tom Bar and Eatery is located at Victoria Park Market, 27 Drake St in Freemans Bay, Auckland. Visit the Tom Tom website to make a reservation or for more information.
