With a list too long to write, Paul Gauguin Cruises has claimed, held and maintained countless global awards. Some of these awards include being voted the “World’s Best Small-Ship Cruise Line (2017)”, “World’s Best Small-Ship Cruise Line for Families (2017)”, and the “#1 Top Cruise Line for Honeymooners (2017)” to name a few. This innovate cruise line boasts their long standing presence in Tahiti, French Polynesia, Fiji and the South Pacific, where their year-round single destination focus sees the cruise liner favoured by the locals.
Owned and operated by Pacific Beachcomber S.C., the 5+ star cruise liner had approached OceanWeave looking to fill the decks of “The Gauguin” and provide outdoor furniture for customers and crew upon the vessel. Shade7 has worked with Pacific Beachcomber in previous years supplying high quality outdoor umbrellas to a number of their leading resorts throughout French Polynesia. It was from the consistent quality and aesthetic appeal of Shade7 outdoor umbrellas that led Pacific Beachcomber to seek out the partnered outdoor furniture of OceanWeave, of which is operated and manufactured by the same team and where the principle of quality and customer orientations runs deep throughout all tiers of the supply chain.
Across the 7 decks and the 504 feet span of the vessel, OceanWeave had supplied a number of different ranges to fill and provide a location of rest and relaxation. Three different models had been selected and supplied; The Paris lounge furniture, the Venice Sun Lounger, and the Malibu Outdoor Daybed. Each individual range provides unique aesthetic benefits. The Paris lounge furniture, as it is a modular set, provides a flexible fixture where you can arrange the modules to fit and suit the environment at hand. The Venice Sun Loungers have the ability to be leant at multiple angles, along with a near 2m stretch. This allows optimal comfort through the number of options to recline in. The Malibu Outdoor Daybeds feature a 2m wide diameter base which is covered by an extending shade providing essentially an outdoor bed.
A 1.6-2.0mm marine grade powder coated aluminium is used to provide the structural framing of the three models which increases the structural integrity and ability to withstand an ocean environment both coastal and at sea. As cruise ships experience winds that bring the salt aboard the ships, this characteristic will prevent the metal from oxidising and withering away. The framing of the three models are each covered with a hand-woven RAUCHORD engineered in Germany from Rehau. Upon manufacture the material is stress tested in extreme heats and colds to ensure that the finished product is of the highest quality. To fill in the pieces, OceanWeave use Sunbrella outdoor fabrics to cover the cushions that are lined with quick dry foam. The material provides a 5 year warranty against face, rot and material break down.
As the characteristics of OceanWeave’s outdoor furniture being arguably the best for the job, Pacific Beachcomber comments simply; “Is it not Gorgeous?!”
This is not the first time OceanWeave’s outdoor furniture has set sail on a cruise ship. New Zealand’s very own Hauraki Blue Cruises has also been furnished with a range of OceanWeave’s premium marine grade outdoor furniture.
OceanWeave have worked on a variety of commercial outdoor furniture projects and can be contacted for any future projects.
